Layford Gulley, age 76, of Tazewell was born January 18, 1929 and passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at the Claiborne County Hospital.

He was saved at an early age and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. He was a road grader operator for the Claiborne County Highway Dept. for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Bertha Gulley; brother: Denvil Gulley; sisters: Ocie Hampton, Ina Mae Lambert.

He is survived by his wife: Beulah Gulley of Tazewell; sons: Lavon and wife Donna Gulley of Tazewell, Layford Lynn Gulley of Harrogate, Larry Allen Gulley of Harrogate; daughters: Brenda Kay and husband Mark Cosby of Tazewell, and Joann Long of Tazewell; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother: Virgil and wife Nora Gulley of Harrogate; sisters: Ola Brooks of Tazewell, Essie Daniels of Springfield, Oh, Retha Cavins of Springfield, Oh; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Thursday, July 7, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Claiborne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Gulley and Rev. Hobert Daniels officiating. Music was provided by The Poplar Grove Singers. Burial in the Poplar Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Bobby Long, Dustin Long, Shelby Gulley, Mark Cosby, Don Gulley, and Wayne Gulley.

Claiborne Funeral Home in charge.
