BAXTER — Bell County will enter the upcoming 52nd District Tournament as the second seed, after the Lady Cats fell in straight sets at Harlan County on Thursday. Bell County opened strong in both sets, before fading late in the 25-18, 25-15 loss.

With the win, Harlan County completed a sweep of district play in the final home game for four seniors.

The Lady Bears were led by senior Cara Middleton in the opening set with two tips, an ace and three points. Chyanna Harris added a spike, an ace and three points. Whitney Stevens had a kill and two points while Keisha Mimes collected a kill.

The second set was played evenly with the score tied at 14 before Harlan reeled off six straight points and went on for the victory.

All six starters for HCHS shined in the final set. Middleton had two tips, a spike, two aces and five points for the Lady Bears. Harris added a spike, two aces and three points. Breanna Dunson collected three tips, two aces and two points while Stevens one spike, one ace, a kill and a point. Mimes had two kills. Rebecca Eldridge added a spike and one point.

Bell County (4-2, 6-17) will participate in the Steak-N-Shake Tournament at North Laurel on Saturday and will close the regular season Tuesday at home against Clay County.

Harlan County (6-0 district, 14-8 overall) closes out its regular season Monday at Whitley County. The 52nd District Tournament will be held at Middlesboro High School.
