Lady Cats win SEKC track meet

The Bell County Lady Cats won the Southeastern Kentucky Conference Track Meet held Saturday in Williamsburg. The Lady Cats won easily, topping second-place Williamsburg by 31 points. Harlan took third.

Williamsburg and Knox Central turned the boy's team competition into a two-team race with the Yellow Jackets taking the title with 150 points. Knox Central was second with 146. Clay County edged Bell for third by a fraction of a point. Clay finished with 64, while Bell came in at 63.5

Brooke White led the charge for Bell with a pair of first-place finishes. She took top honors in the 1,600-meter run and in the 800-meter run.

The Lady Cats' relay teams also turned in strong performances with a first place finish in the 4x800-meter relay (Teagan Brock, Brooke White, Hannah Hobbs, Sarah Hobbs) and taking a trio of second-place finishes.

Kelsey Collett finished first in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles while teammate Sarah Hobbs won the 300 and finished second in the 100. Hobbs also took second in the long jump.

Hannah Hobbs picked up a pair of second-place finishes, running behind White in the 1,600-meter run and finishing behind Miranda Davenport in the 3,200-meter run. Kayla Brock added a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash.

Leslie Emmett was Middlesboro's highest finisher, taking third place in the high jump. The Lady Jackets finished eighth with nine points. Pineville was ninth with two.

Garret Johnson and Shawn Robbins each picked up a win for the Bobcats.

Johnson took first in the 300-meter hurdles and was second in the 110-meter hurdles. Robbins won the long jump and was third in both the 100-meter dash and in the 110-meter hurdles.

Ben Hoskins finished second in the triple jump and the Bobcats' relay team of Ben Hoskins, Garret Johnson, Bryce Mickey and Calvin Sampson was third in the 4x100-meter relay.

Middlesboro's team of Chris Evans, Cornelious Ford, Dylan Frost and Tim Smith led the Yellow Jackets with a third-place finish in the 100-meter relay. Frost picked up a third-place finish in the triple jump.

Craig Mosley and Matthew Combs each picked up a win for Pineville. Combs won the 1,600-meter run and was third in the 800. Mosley was first in the 400-meter run and took third in the 200.

Pineville finished sixth overall with 36 points. Middlesboro was seventh overall with 14 points.
