Steven Lonnie Merida, 38, of Flatlick, was arrested by Sgt. Ben Spurlock of the Middlesboro Police Department (MPD) on two counts of second-degree forgery and fraudulent use of a credit card on Tuesday.
According to the citation, the fraudulent use of a credit card charge came from Merida using a credit card that did not belong to him and without the cardholders permission, to make purchases at Walmart. The forgery charges occurred when Merida signed the name of the cardholder to credit card receipts.
Lonnie Derrick Merida, 28, of Speedwell, Tenn., was also charged in the case. Sgt. Wade Barnett of the MPD arrested Lonnie Merida for fraudulent use of a credit card as well as second-degree criminal trespassing.
According to the citation, Lonnie Merida used a credit card that did not belong to him and without the cardholders permission, to make purchases at Walmart and Game Stop. The criminal trespassing charge was brought because he was banned from Walmart for prior theft-related charges.
Both men remained in jail on Thursday.
In an unrelated event, Bruce Scott Smith, 31, of Middlesboro, was arrested. Smith was charged with giving officers a false name, resisting arrest and third-degree assault on a police officer.
According to the citation, officers responded to Park Manor in response to a fight between a male and female. Upon arrival, Lt. Tom Busic of the MPD spoke with Smith. Smith identified himself as someone else to Busic and continued to do so even after being warned about giving a false name.
The resisting arrest and third-degree assault charges resulted from Smith’s actions following his being told he was under arrest. According to the citation, once Smith was told he was under arrest, he jerked away and fought with officers.
Smith also remained in jail on Thursday.
