LAUREL HILL — Mary Evelyn Cox passed away at her home on Thursay, October 29, 2009, after a long illness.

A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, she was a member of the Brownies Creek Primitive Baptist Church, and a life long resident of the Laurel Hill community of Pineville.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Jackson; her mother, Debbie Simpson Jackson; step-mother, Geneva Miller Jackson; step-mother, Viola Green Jackson; and a brother, Charles Calvin Jackson.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Clayborne Cox; daughters, Diane Ball, Laurel Hill, Judy Hamilton, Laurel Hill, Janice (Bob) Blackburn, Lexington, Ky.; grandson John Michael Hamilton, Knoxville, Tenn.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim (Christine) Jackson, Maybee, Mich., John J. (Rutha) Jackson, Arthur (Joyce) Jackson, Gary (Shirley) Jackson, Eddie (Beulah) Jackson, all of Laurel Hill; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta (Freeman) Hoskins of Laurel Hill, and Coraetta (Dan) Fitzpatrick of Harlan, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews, including special nephew Eric Fitzpatrick.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 1, at the Laurel Hill Primitive Baptist Association Building. Services will be conducted by Kenneth Robbins, Randall Miracle and John Henry Jackson; and her caregivers, Dr. Martha Combs-Woolum, the staffs of Pineville Home Health, Hospice of the Bluegrass, and a very special caregiver, Mabel.

Internment will take place at the John Jackson Cemetery at Laurel Hill. Pallbearers will be brothers-in-law Dan Fitzpatrick and Freeman Hoskins, and nephews Mark Jackson, Hal Jackson, Jeff Jackson and Kevin Jackson. Honorary Pallbearers will be nephews Glenn Jackson, Tim Jackson, Harold McGeorge, James McGeorge, and John McGeorge.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, October 31, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home.
