Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) will have a special guest Wednesday for an event celebrating the newly renovated emergency department and its Joint Commission Recognition as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures.

Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell is scheduled to be the guest speaker at the ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration, set to begin at 3 p.m.

The newly renovated Emergency Department offers 12 beds, all new emergency equipment and furnishings along with in-room computers for the electronic medical record system, a decontamination room for patients who need to be isolated from other patients, a designated ambulance and police area for first responder staff, and a larger and more functional nurses’ station.

Middlesboro ARH Hospital was recently cited as being among the top 18 percent of U.S. hospitals named as Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission.

The hospital was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care in the treatment of pneumonia, heart failure and surgical care.
