Middlesboro High School held a Veterans Day program to honor local active and retired military personnel.

The event began with an opening by Ben Slusher who acknowledged the veterans in the audience. The posting of colors and the National Anthem followed.

Rachael Schneider led the Pledge of Allegiance. Kelsey Messer recited “I am the Flag.”

Nick Shoffner presented “Why I Love Her,” while Carissa Padgett recited “Remember Me.” Madison Cox delivered “Freedom Isn’t Free.”

The band preformed patriotic music. The combined Middlesboro Middle School and Middlesboro High School Choirs performed patriotic songs.

Two special presentations were made during the program. The first was the Table Ceremony honoring soldiers from all branches of the military, who are still prisoners of war or missing in action.

At the conclusion of the program, Logan Howard presented the American Flag to Lauren Schneider. This presentation was to portray the symbol of a loved one receiving a flag at the grave of a soldier.

As “Taps” played, followed by a rendition of Amazing Grace with bagpipes, a hush settled over the audience in remembrance and prayer for lost loved ones.
