Two teachers were recognized as teachers of the month Monday evening at the Middlesboro Board of Education’s regular meeting.

Sheila Smith, director of Supervision and Instruction, read the nominations and presented each teacher with a $25 award.

Mandy Creech, a second-grade teacher at Middlesboro Primary School, was recognized as elementary school teacher of the month.

“(An) excellent example of a teacher leader (and) serves on numerous committees related to school improvement,” read Smith. “She’s dedicated to the success of her students and has excellent rapport with students and parents.”

Chuck Owens, an eleventh-grade social studies teacher at Middlesboro High School, was recognized as middle/high school teacher of the month.

“He has a great passion for his subject and wants to pass that on to his students,” read Smith. “He brings history alive by wearing uniforms from the civil war era (and) World War II and brings in items used during these periods.”
