Peoples’ Choice Pharmacy scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday to pull out a 9-4 win over Coca-Cola at the Middlesboro Little League Tournament.

J.D. Gambrel, Jacob Gullett, Braden Ausmus, Josh Gullett and Carson Shumate all reached base and scored runs in the inning as People’s Choice pulled ahead.

Coke had rallied with three runs in the top of the inning to tie the game four. Joey Napier singled to start the inning and he later came around to score. Collier Elkins and Taylor McClelland both walked and scored runs while Nick Smith had an RBI single.

Coke went up 1-0 in the top of the first as Napier walked and then came all the way around to score when Corey Evans reached on an error.

People’s Choice put up two runs in the bottom of the second. Braden Ausmus and Josh Gullett both reached on errors and Matthew Saylor singled. Shumate brought Ausmus home with a fielder’s choice grounder to third. After another fielder’s choice, Shumate scored on an error for a 2-1 lead.

Will Bevins single and scored in the third inning and Gambrel singled and scored in the fourth to stretch the People’s Choice lead to 4-1.

Josh Gullett came on to pitch for People’s Choice with one out in the fifth. He gave up Smith’s hit after walking McClelland, but got a pair of strike outs to end the inning and kept Coca-Cola off the board in the sixth to preserve the win.

The loss eliminates Coke while People’s Choice plays Goodyear in the loser’s bracket final Tuesday at 6 p.m.
