The Pineville School Library has been hosting a scholastic book fair since Thursday. The book fair will continue until Friday.

In addition to books, students can purchase posters, erasers, pointers and stickers at the book fair.

Students have various opportunities to visit the book fair throughout the day but parents are welcome to come and shop with their children as well.

Numerous parents have already attended the book fair this year. Parents can stop by the book fair in the morning when they drop their child off or in the afternoon when they pick their child up from school.

The proceeds from the book fair will be used to benefit students throughout Pineville Independent School District.

“We use it to buy new books and to buy technology that we might not be able to get otherwise,” explained Diana Anderson, K-12 Library Media Specialist.

The book fair has been continuously successful every year and the school currently hosts the event twice a year.

New this year and running in conjunction with the Scholastic Book Fair is a used book sale.

A group of sixth grade students came up with the idea to have the used book sale while talking with Anderson about ways to raise some money for an after school book club.

The goal of the used book sale is to help with the initial funding of the book club.

“To buy everybody the same book that they could keep,” said Anderson.

The used book sale consists of over 2,000 used books. The majority of the used books are adult titles and have been donated by various people in the community.

All paperback books at the used book sale are $1 and the hard back books are $3 each.

Proceeds from both fairs will also be used to support the Pineville School Library Book Buddies Program. The Book Buddies Program pairs 6th grade students with primary students for weekly reading activities.

If you are interested in donating books for the used book sale or would like additional information about the Scholastic Book Fair, please contact Diana Anderson at 606-337-4386.
