Middlesboro - Ray “Tom” Barnes, 80, passed away Tuesday, April, 10, 2007, at Laurel Manor Nursing Home, Tazewell, Tenn.

He was born July 6, 1926, at Butcher Gap, Va., the son of the late Peter Franklin Barnes and Ida Mae Young Barnes. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Middlesboro. He retired from Consolidated Freight Way after 30 years, and was a dedicated member of Teamsters Local #651.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Archer Barnes; two sons, Dewey Ray and Willie Thomas Barnes; four sisters, Helen and Bud Davis, Edith and Lenard Silsox, Flossy Barnes, and Dorothy Barnes; three brothers, Roy and Dolly Barnes, Henry Barnes and Chester and Gwen Barnes.

He is survived by four daughters, Linda and Alan West, Polly and Charles Cole, all of Middlesboro, Alice and Charles Bush, Cumberland Gap, Tenn., and Wilma and Rick Hansen, Waynesville, N.C.; two sons, Hank and Edna Barnes, and Jay Barnes, all of Middlesboro; two sisters, Grace and Bob Gay, Bellville, Mich., and Cleo and Bud Carey of Ypsilanta, Mich.; two brothers, Morrison and Elaine Barnes of Petersburgh, Mich. and Bill and Virgie Barnes of Bellville, Mich.; grandchildren: Tim Cole, Candy and Sam Bayless, and Julie Prichard, all of Middlesboro, Tommy and Jennifer Webb, Winchester, Ky., Jennifer and Mark Spade, Ewing, Va., Hanky T. Barnes, Ginger and Richard Coots, all of Middlesboro, Suzy and Billy Kelley, Sparkey (John) and Tiffany Barnes, all of Harrogate, Tenn., Josette and Jason Kirk, Richmond, Ky., Woody Bush, Means, Ky., Crystal Hansen and Ricky Hansen, both of Waynesville, N.C., J.D and Anita Barnes and Jason Barnes, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; 27 great-grandchildren; great great-grandchild, Arios Amadaeus Bush, son of Josh and Amber Bush, Jefferson County, Tenn.; two special friends, Jerry Williams, Harrogate, Tenn., and Wallace Hoskins, Middlesboro; and a special friend of the family, Randall Niece of Michigan.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 14, at Church of Christ, Middlesboro, with the Rev. Dale Turner officiating. Music will be provided by Suzy Kelley and Jennifer Webb.

Burial will be in Elydale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.

The family will receive friends at 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 13, at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel.
