Two young Claiborne County, Tenn., people were critically injured Thursday afternoon as a result of a wreck in Grainger County, Tenn.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2002 Ford Mustang driven by a 17-year-old juvenile from New Tazewell, Tenn., was traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy. 25E near Hwy. 131 around 3 p.m. Thursday when it ran off the right side of the roadway, then slid in between the concrete barrier into the southbound lanes. The Mustang was T-boned by a 2005 Dodge Caravan on the driver’s side, which split the Mustang in half. The rear of the vehicle was stuck on the concrete barrier and the front of the vehicle was on the shoulder of the southbound lanes.
The driver of the Mustang was flown to UT Hospital and is in critical condition at this time. One passenger, Jordyn Parker, 16, of New Tazewell, was also flown to UT Hospital and is also listed in critical condition. Another passenger in the Mustang, Derek Goins, 18, of New Tazewell, was also injured.
The driver of the Caravan was Lois Hatfield, 46, of New Tazewell. She sustained minor injuries. Her passenger, Jason Jones, 37, of Thorn Hill, also sustained minor injuries. They both refused transport to the hospital.
All of the occupants of both vehicle were wearing seat belts.
The wreck is being investigated by Trooper Billy Bullington and is ongoing.
