Bell County Day Treatment and the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF) announced a major gift in support of Bell County Day Treatment’s mission to engage individuals in local community improvement and environmental projects.

The Lowe’s Keep America Beautiful Community Improvement Grant of $5,000 is one of 120 merit-based grants awarded nationally to support grassroots community improvement projects ranging from community gardens and tree planting to litter and debris cleanups, recycling programs, park and playground restoration and beautification efforts.

The Pineville grant program will provide funding for the Bell County Day Treatment School Beautification and Outdoor Classroom Project. This project will provide an outdoor classroom for the students of Bell County Day Treatment.

The beautification project will allow students to take pride in their school, as well as build self-esteem among students, while providing a therapeutic environment in which students can receive counseling services.

Community members interested in getting involved with the project may contact Shannon Collins at Bell Day Treatment at (606) 337-0957 or by email at shannon.collins@bell.kyschools.us for further information.

“I am so proud of Shannon Collins. She took the initiative, without being asked, to write this grant. Her efforts paid off,” said Bell County Superintendent Yvonne Gilliam. “The students as well as Shannon’s colleagues are excited about the landscaping beautification additions that the students will be creating at our day treatment facility.”

The grant program is being supported by Lowe’s companywide volunteerism effort, Lowe’s Heroes. This initiative offers Lowe’s employees the opportunity to work on a project in their own neighborhood, helping to make their communities better places to live, work and play.

“Keep America Beautiful is proud of the positive impact that Bell County Day Treatment’s project will have in the Pineville Community,” said Keep America Beautiful President and CEO Matt McKenna. “We are truly grateful to Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation for its support and leadership that is being demonstrated in community sustainability.”
