A Midddlesboro man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing his son.
Richard Goodman Sr., 47, appeared in Bell Circuit Court on Aug. 16 represented by attorney Linda West. Goodman wanted to withdraw his not guilty plea and enter a plea of guilty to the charge of murder.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Karen Greene-Blondell recommended a sentence of 20 years.
Goodman was charged with killing his 23-year-old son Richard Gooman Jr., in April 2010, and then fled into Claiborne County, Tenn.
The incident reportedly occurred at their residence on Parker Lane in Middlesboro as a result of a domestic dispute. Soon after the incident, Goodman Sr. was spotted going through the Cumberland Gap Tunnel and was arrested.
The case was investigated by the Middlesboro Police Department.
Police described the incident as a “domestic argument that got out of control.”
Lt. Tom Busic and Det. Joe Holder conducted the investigation.
Goodman was delivered to the Department of Corrections by Bell County Sheriff’s Office.
