Tony Maxwell, Reading Intervention Specialist in the Middlesboro Independent School District, was the guest speaker during the monthly chamber “Soup and Sandwich” meeting. Maxwell discussed the importance of reading to a child at least 20 minutes each day. Maxwell said that 14 out of 100 students entering third grade still read at the kindergarten level. This was just one of the examples Maxwell presented on why it is important to read to a child.
