Staff Report
The Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival is set to kickoff on Oct. 4 with a concert with Restless Heart performing at the Middlesboro High School Gymnasium. Activities continue through Oct. 6.
The Daily News is partnering with the Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival and the Middlesboro Mall to make the 2012 Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival Photography Contest an exciting venue for amateur photographers to get their art into the public’s eye.
Winning photographs will be printed in the Daily News. They will also be on display in the harvest tent at the Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival, and then at the Middlesboro Mall.
There are four different categories for photo submissions. All of the photos submitted in a category other than in the open black & white photo category should be color photos. The categories descriptions are as follows:
• People — Any photograph in which the main subject is a person. The photo may be posed or candid.
• Landscape — Any photography in which the main subject is scenery. This includes sunsets, plants, flowers, structures or similar views.
• Open — No requirement except that the photo does not fit in any other category.
• Black & white open — All black & white prints will be judged together on their artistic impression, quality of photo, creativity and difficulty of shot.
Judging will be based on the following— Photographic quality: meaning the technical correctness and difficulty of shot. Composition: the arrangement of subject matter for best effect. Originality: the eye-catching appeal to the greatest number of people. Relevance: how the photograph’s subject relates to the category in which it is judged.
Conditions of entry: The Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival Photography Competition is open to amateur photographers of all ages. Print size should be no less than 5 x 7 inches and no more than 8 x 10 inches. Prints must be framed. Frames will not have an impact on judging. By entering photographs into the Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival Photography Contest, the photographer agrees not to hold the Festival, the Middlesboro Daily News, the Middlesboro Mall or any participating sponsors responsible for lost or damaged photographs and/or frames.
Photographs may be submitted the week of Sept. 17 - Oct. 1 at the Daily News office on North 11th Street (behind Food City). Winning photographs will be on display at the Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival and then on display at the Middlesboro Mall. In case of rain, photographs may be removed from view during the festival.
Photographs must be accompanied by an entry form. Entry forms will be available at the Middlesboro Daily News, at the time photos are submitted for the contest. Each photograph must have a separate entry form attached to the reverse side. Unframed photographs will not be accepted.
