The Kentucky State Police, Post 10 is working a death investigation in the Kildav community.
KSP Public Affairs Officer Shane Jacobs said the state police received a call at 3:33 a.m. on Thursday in reference to an unresponsive male. Jacobs said upon their arrival, troopers discovered Bruce M. Penix, 47, of Kildav, deceased inside a residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Harlan County Deputy Coroner Jim Rich and is being sent to State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The investigation is being conducted by Det. Mike Cornett. The cause of death is pending results of an autopsy.
Shortly after arriving on the scene, troopers were holding a man for questioning. The police are not releasing any information on that man at this time as the investigation is still ongoing.
Cornett was assisted at the scene by Harlan EMS, sergeants Jeremy Lee and Jackie Pickrell, troopers Rodney Sturgill and Kenny Sergent, and Evarts Police Chief Lupe Blas and officer John Teagle.
