The Bell County boys and girls both finished in tenth place at the stacked Region 5AA meet at Boyle County on Saturday.
Among the highlights for the Bobcats, 8th grader Austin Shackleford turned in a time of 2:04.61 to finish second in the 800 meter run and qualify for the Kentucky Class AA track meet.
Also headed for the state meet is senior Nathan Tanner after placing third in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:40.34.
The Bell boys also got a fifth place finish in the 4x800 meter relay with the team of Tanner, Shackleford, Donovan Napier and Mitchell Miracle running a 8:56.97. Napier, Shackleford, Tanner and Isaac Muncy teamed up for a sixth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:56.62.
Senior Stephen Griffin placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet, 1 inch. He was just one-half inch from finishing in a tie for fourth.
For the Lady Cats, junior Kelly Brown placed third in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:54.13 and fourth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:52.43.
Brown also teamed with Maci Morris, Katrina Johnson and Kaite Mason to finish fourth in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 11:13.86.
Sophomore Cassidy Nantz finished tied for sixth in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 4 inches.
Boyle County won the girls’ region with 156 points. Madison Southern was second with 90 points, Rockcastle County third with 67 and Knox Central fourth with 59.50.
On the boys’ side Boyle County was first with 119 points, followed by Mercer County with 116, Madison Southern with 81 and Russell County with 47.
Here’s a rundown of how Bell County athletes fared in each event:
Girls 4x800 meter relay: Sophomore Kaite Mason, freshman Katrina Johnson, sophomore Maci Morris and junior Kelly Brown placed fourth with a time of 11:13.86.
Boys 4x800 meter relay: Senior Nathan Tanner, sophomore Donovan Napier, 7th grader Mitchell Miracle and 8th grader Austin Shackleford placed fifth with a time of 8:56.97.
Boys 100 meter dash: Junior Andrew Harris placed 12th with a time of 12.67.
Boys 4x200 meter relay: 7th grader Josh Allen, 8th grader Logan Woody, 8th grader Nathan Morales and freshman Isaac Muncy were disqualified.
Girls 1600 meter run: Kelly Brown placed fourth with a time of 5:52.43.
Boys 1600 meter run: Mitchell Miracle placed 18th with a time of 5:41.75.
Boys 4x100 meter relay: Josh Allen, Logan Woody, Nathan Morales and Andrew Harris placed 11th with a time of 51.58.
Boys 800 meter run: Austin Shackleford placed second with a time of 2:04.61*.
Boys 200 meter dash: Andrew Harris placed eighth with a time of 25.40.
Girls 3200 meter run: Kelly Brown placed third with a time of 12:54.13.
Boys 3200 meter run: Nathan Tanner placed third with a time of 10:40.34*.
Girls 4x400 meter relay: Freshman Allison Howard, Katrina Johnson, Maci Morris and Kelly Brown placed seventh with a time of 4:48.08.
Boys 4x400meter relay: Isaac Muncy, Donovan Napier, Austin Shackleford and Nathan Tanner placed sixth with a time of 3:56.62.
Girls Shot Put: Freshman Erin Partin placed tenth with a distance of 23-09.00 and 8th grader Cheyenne Deaton placed 13th with a distance of 21-02.50.
Boys Shot Put: Senior Jared Fultz placed 15th with a distance of 34-04.00 and freshman Kaleb Musser placed 21st with a distance of 23-08.25.
Girls Discus: Erin Partin placed tenth with a distance of 61-08 and Cheyenne Deaton placed 13th with a distance of 53-11.
Boys Discus: Jared Fultz placed 18th with a distance of 75-05 and Kaleb Musser placed 19th with a distance of 64-02.
Girls Long Jump: Katrina Johnson placed 11th with a distance of 12-08.50 and freshman Lexi Sanders placed 17th with a distance of 9-07.50.
Boys Long Jump: Senior Stephen Griffin placed tenth with a distance of 18-00.00 and junior Jake Griffin placed 15th with a distance of 16-01.50.
Girls Triple Jump: Sophomore Cassidy Nantz placed tenth with a distance of 22-05.50 and freshman Emily Saylor placed 12th with a distance of 20-04.75.
Boys Triple Jump: Stephen Griffin placed sixth with a distance of 38-01.00 and Jake Griffin placed 14th with a distance of 29-07.75.
Girls High Jump: Cassidy Nantz placed tied for sixth with a height of 4-04.00.
