The Pineville Mountain Lions jumped out big on Allen Central and cruised to a 44-0 road win Friday night in Class A football action.
The Lions were once again led by a strong running game from the trio of Tanner Mike, Connor Ford and Andrew Douglas. All three accounted for multiple touchdowns in the big win and quarterback Jamie Roan added a touchdown pass to Kyle Capps.
“Our defense played really good. We were able to stop their fullback, who is a really good player, and I don’t think we gave up even a first down in the first half,” said Lion coach Bart Elam. “We ran the ball well, all three of those guys had a good night. It might not show up in the stats because we played with a running clock in the third quarter, but that phase has really come along. It shows how well our offensive line is playing, there were some holes you could have driven a truck through.”
Pineville scored on every possession of the first half as they built a 30-0 lead going into the break. If the outcome wasn’t already decided, Ford clinched it by returning the third quarter kickoff for a touchdown.
“We just jumped on them early and I think they kind of let down a little bit after we built that big lead,” Elam added.
Pineville improves to 3-3 on the year and will open district play next week at Jenkins. Allen Central (0-6) will host Phelps next Friday.
It was the second straight win for the Lions to even their record and Elam said it gives the team some momentum heading into the district slate.
“Obviously, we’re playing good right now. We’ve made some changes and moved some people around,” he said. “The bottom line is late in the year you’re going to win or lose game up front. Our guys have won the battle in trenches the last two weeks and that’s what got us those victories. We’ve gained momentum, hopefully we can keep it going in those district games.”
