A Tennessee man was arrested on drug possession charges Friday. Russell Kent Kanipes, 44, of Oak Ridge, was arrested by Jordon Hurd of the Middlesboro Police Department and charged with four counts of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, one count of third-degree possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
According to the arrest citation, Kanipes was arrested at Bingo Universe on 15th Street. He allegedly had roxicodone, Valiums and oxymorphine in his possession when he was arrested.
Kanipes was released from custody on Friday.
In other police news, James J. Halcomb, 28, of Middlesboro, was arrested by Floyd Patterson of the MPD on the charge of theft by failure to make required disposition of property.
According to the arrest citation, Halcomb agreed to fix the alleged victim’s vehicle (2010 PT Cruiser) due to malfunction in the ignition switch. He led the alleged victim to believe he worked for Shackleford Motors and could get all the parts to fix her car.
According to the citation, Halcomb took several parts from the vehicle including doors, windows, exterior and interior parts, surround sound, tools and batteries.
Halcomb was released from custody on Saturday.
