New principal announced at MHS

Chase Smith

Staff Writer

Middlesboro High School has a new principal as of Friday. MHS alumnus Bobby Bennett was named as the new principal.

Bennett is a three-time graduate of Lincoln Memorial University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and master’s degrees in both guidance and counseling and administration and supervision. He is also working on his doctorate in education at the University of the Cumberlands.

He is married and has two children in the school system. His son is in the seventh grade and his daughter is in the fourth grade. His wife is currently a graduate assistant at LMU where she recently completed her master’s in counseling. She is also in the capstone phase of a psychology master’s at Union College.

Bennett has been working in education for 22 years. He’s worked at J. Frank White Academy, Bell County High School, and he also served as a Pineville Independent School teacher and elementary principal.

This is Bennett’s third year at MHS. He feels very fortunate to serve his alma mater and community with pride.

He states, “My goal is to provide a positive, safe environment and to ensure the students and teachers are supported as much as possible. Another crucial goal of ours is to focus on how to help the students’ achievement. Community involvement will be a very important aspect of our work here at MHS.”

Bennett has been a Baptist minister for over 20 years, and is currently serving as the pastor of New Vine Baptist Church.

The announcement of the new principal was made just in time for the new school year which began today for Middlesboro Independent Schools.

Mr. Bennett is an excellent choice for principal. His priorities are straight, his integrity is as near to flawless as it can come, and he is unmatched in his dedication to the students he teaches. Good job, for once, Ms. Smith and board.

What an excellent choice for MHS Principal. I am a former district-level administrator for Bell Co Schools and no longer live in the area, but read this announcement. Bobby was an amazing teacher of mathematics for our high school. Students were challenged by him, but also developed a strong rapport and respect for him. A very conscientious and professional man. Best to all!
