The Kentucky Wildcats will be looking to improve on a 5-7 season this year. Last year looked promising for coach Mark Stoops as the Wildcats started out the season with a strong 5-1 showing.

During the nearly two month span, UK held victories over UT-Martin (59-14), Ohio (20-3), Vanderbilt (17-7), South Carolina (45-38) and Louisiana Monroe (48-14). The only loss the Wildcats suffered came at the hands of Florida in a closely contested game in the Swamp. Kentucky lost 36-30 in three overtimes.

After the victory over the Warhawks, Kentucky lost every game including a 44-40 loss to Louisville. The Wildcats missed out on bowl eligibility with the defeat.

Across the state-line, the Volunteers will be look to continue their march toward relevance in the SEC. Last year, Butch Jones led Tennessee to a 7-6 record with a 45-28 victory over Iowa in the Taxslayer Bowl.

In the beginning of the season, things did not look so great for the Vols. After defeating Utah State (38-7) and Arkansas State (34-19), Tennessee lost three straight games. Those games were against Oklahoma (34-10), Georgia (35-32) and Florida (10-9).

The Vols ended the losing streak with a victory over UT-Chattanooga (45-10) before losing two more SEC games against Ole Miss (34-3) and Alabama (34-20).

UT gained momentum near the end of the season winning three of their final four games. A 45-42 overtime victory over South Carolina started things off for the Vols.

The Vols then defeated Kentucky (50-16) and lost to Missouri (29-21). UT won their final regular season game against Vanderbilt (24-17) to earn bowl eligibility.
