Sirens blared and lights sparkled as the Forge Ridge Archery Team headed west down TN 63 with a police escort on their way to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) World Competition.

Sporadic, early morning fog provided the backdrop as the police escorted the archers out of the county. The team qualified for the World NASP event after shooting great at the National NASP event a few weeks back.

The archers and parents have spent the last few weeks raising funds for a trip that would most likely not have happened if the world competition was held elsewhere. Archery coach Sheri Schatz said as much in an interview before they loaded the bus.

“We were lucky to qualify for the world shoot in a year that it was being held so close to us,” said Schatz. “If it was anywhere else we may not have had the funding to attend, but God took care of us by having the event in Nashville.”

When asked about the help that this team got financially Schatz added, “To begin with, I have a great set of parents and we had so much help from various people including several area doctors. Without them we probably wouldn’t have been able to attend the meet.”

“I must also give a huge thank you to Mr. Cosby for believing in our program and all the support he gave us during his time as principal,” said Schatz.

The team is shooting very good now according to the coaches, and they seemed to have a confident way about them as they loaded the bus to begin their journey.

However, before loading the bus the team assembled into the shape of a circle and joined hands. They asked for individual prayer requests, and then together prayed for their safety and for all the other teams attending the event.

With the prayer behind them the team loaded the bus and began their journey. The Claiborne Progress will be giving updates as they come in and will have full coverage of the trip in the next edition.
