BARBOURVILLE — The Union College women’s soccer team opened up the 2015 season with a 1-0 loss to in-state non-conference foe Georgetown.
The loss starts the Bulldogs off with a 0-1 record on the season while the Tigers move to 1-0.
A large crowd taking in the first home sporting event of the season saw both teams put on a defensive clinic in the first half. The Tigers outshot the Bulldogs 7-6 in the half while Kendall Ellington (junior/London) collected all five of her saves in the first half as Georgetown tested her early.
The only goal of the night came 12 seconds into the second half as Jodi DeJohn chipped a ball in from 20 yards out to collect the game winner and give the Tigers a 1-0 win to open the season. Union tried to find the equalizer but was able to only manage four shots in the second half.
For the Bulldogs: Sharika Ingram (senior/Manchester, Jamaica), Tuany Miguel (junior/Campinas, Brazil) and Kristin Meece (freshman/Waynesburg) finished with three shots each on the night. DeJohn took three shots on the night with two coming on goal, including the game winner.
