WILMORE — The Union College women’s soccer team picked up their first win of the 2015 season with a 3-0 win over Asbury as two Bulldogs collected their first career goals.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 1-1 on the year while the Eagles fall to 0-2.
The Bulldogs got on the board early as they picked up goal on an Asbury own goal miscue. The Eagles were trying to defend a Bulldog attack and knocked the ball into their own goal at the 12:48 mark.
Jessica Austin (senior/Altadena, California) collected her first goal as a Bulldog on a breakaway at the 25:57 mark in the first-half, putting Union up 2-0.
With a 2-0 lead at halftime, Asbury outshot Union 13-4, but could not find the back of the net.
Two minutes into the second half, Kristin Meece (freshman/Waynesburg) put the match out of reach as she joined Austin with her first career goal as a Bulldog to seal a Union 3-0 win.
Asbury controlled the shot advantage, taking 16 shots compared to Union’s four. Bulldogs star goalkeeper Kendall Ellington (junior/London) finished with six saves, while the Union team was credited with two saves.
Union will continue non-conference play on Sept. 2, when they host Hiwassee (Tennessee) for a 7 p.m. match.
