The Middlesboro Community Center will play host on Saturday to one of the larger boxing cards the town has held. The event starts at 6 p.m. and will feature 20 amateur fights.
“I’ve been getting a lot of phone calls from people out there because they saw the event online,” said trainer Owen Beck.
According Beck, teams will be coming from: Jackson, Tennessee; Louisville; Lexington; Charleston, West Virginia; Johnson City, Tennessee; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Nashville, Tennessee.
“There are quite a few teams who didn’t get matched up that are not coming here that should be,” said Beck.
Local fighters who will be featured in the event include; Hailey Eagle, Clayton Eagle, Greg Chavies, Steven “Buckeye” Hunter, John Rowland, Eddie Gilbert and Alex Andrade.
“These guys and girls have been working hard,” said Beck. “These boys and girls that I have right now, they’re pretty much well prepared. Come this Saturday, everybody will see the ones that are here and working out.”
One fighter that Beck is excited to see fight is Hailey Eagle.
“She has come a long way. She used to watch her brother Clayton because Clayton boxed back in Michigan,” said Beck. “She used to just come and watch him, and she just decided to jump in the mix.”
Hailey did not get to participate in the previous two scheduled events because there was no match for her.
“This was one of those times were I was like I really have to get her a match,” said Beck.
The only fight for her to participate in during the event Saturday was against a female in the 126 pound division. Hailey fights at 116.
“I told her about it (the fight)…and she was like I don’t care. I just want to fight,” said Beck. “I can’t wait to let everybody see her.”
Beck invites everyone to come out and support the fighters.
