BARBOURVILLE — The Union College women’s soccer team routed Hiwassee (Tennessee) 7-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 2-1 on the young season while the Tigers fall to 0-2.
Union got on the board first on a Kristin Meece (freshman/Waynesburg) goal at the 5:46 mark. The Meece goal came off a Sharika Ingram (senior/Manchester, Jamaica) header assist. The Bulldogs quickly scored again, this time by Michelle Landeiro (senior/Boca Raton, Florida) at the 6:27 mark.
Leading 2-0, Union added its third goal on the evening on Jordyn Powers (sophomore/Brandenburg) goal from Shea Stivers (freshman/Taylor Mill). One minute later, Landeiro found the back of the net for her second goal of the match, giving the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead at the 17:35 mark.
Jackie Sullivan (freshman/Goshen, Ohio) and Stivers would score their first collegiate goals back-to-back in the first-half giving the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead at halftime. The Sullivan goal came at the 22:35 mark, while the Stivers goal came on an Ingram assist at the 31:05 mark.
The second half saw only one goal as Ingram collected her first goal of the season on a Meece assist to give the Union the 7-0 shutout win.
Landeiro finished the match with the first two goals of her Bulldog career while Ingram finished with a match-high two assists.
The Tigers lone bright spot was goalkeeper Ballie McMahan, who finished with 18 saves.
Union finished the match with 32 shots with 25 coming on goal.
The Bulldogs will start their four-game road trip as they head to Shawnee State (Ohio) on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
