HARROGATE - In the first week of the selection process for weekly individual honors, Lincoln Memorial University baseball player Brian Williams has been named Gulf South Conference Eastern Division Player of the Week by the conference office in Birmingham, Alabama.
A 5'1O" sophomore from Flat Rock, North Carolina, Williams recorded a .467 batting average, while going 7 for 15 at the plate with three runs scored, four P131 and a homerun in LMU's 3-1 record last week against non-conference opponents Carson-Newman College and Ohio Valley College.
In addition, the Railsplitter infielder boasted a .133 slugging percentage while helping Lincoln Memorial put together their first three-game series sweep of the year against the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley College last weekend.
With two games already rescheduled this week due to inclement weather, Williams and the Railsplitters are hoping that Friday and Saturday's three-game series with the University of Southern indiana will be played as planned. LMU and USI will square off in two seven inning games on Friday beginning at noon Eastern Time on the Lamar Hennon Field. Saturday's final game will get underway at 1p.m. or for additional comments please contact, Head Coach Jeff Sziksai at (423) 869-6345.
