Lady Cats routed in tourney opener

The Bell County Lady Cats opened play in the Tates Creek Invitational Tournament on Friday, falling to Warren East 12-1 in pool play.

Warren East led 3-0 after the first inning and was up 6-0 at the end of the second, coasting to the victory.

The Lady Cats notched four hits against winner Rachel Parker, led by Datina Centers' double and single. Amber Taylor and Tiffany Oliver each added a single.

Parker finished with seven strikeouts while walking two.

Tracy Laws suffered the loss for Bell. She struck out three and walked six. Warren East pounded out 12 hits in the victory.

Bell's lone run came in the third inning as the Lady Cats collected half their hits.

Centers open things up with a double and went to third on Sydney MacAnich's groundout to short. Taylor drove in Centers with a single that fell over the first baseman's head, along the right field line.

Middlesboro, also playing in the tournament, was idle Friday due to Cawood withdrawing from the tourney.

Bell County (2-3) will take on the Lady Jackets today at 1 p.m. Middlesboro opens play today at 9 p.m. against Warren East.
