According to witnesses at the scene, a man driving a blue Toyota was heading East on 63 when he hit two vehicles. The first car hit ran off the road and came to rest down a small embankment. One female passenger was ejected from the vehicle while two males were trapped inside.
The Speedwell Volunteer Fire Department, North Claiborne Volunteer Fire Department and Claiborne County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident. A LifeStar helicopter landed on the highway and transported at least one of the injured people.
The driver of the second vehicle hit suffered only minor injuries.
Some on the scene said the driver of the Toyota fled on foot and left his damaged car on the eastbound shoulder. Police on hand would not comment. No names or further information was available at press time.
