The New Tazewell Merchants Association met on Sept. 21st to begin planning the annual Christmas parade.

After the call to order by President Polly Enix, the minutes of the previous meeting and financial report was read and approved. Having no old business to discuss, the new business of the 2005 parade was addressed.

The New Tazewell Claiborne County Christmas Parade will be Saturday Nov. 19th at 1 p.m. The rain date is Dec. 3rd. This years theme will be "God Bless America."

Honored merchants will be Dane Miracle of Midway Appliance and Ruby Napier of Ruby's Beauty Unlimited.

Instead of an individual, the merchants would like to honor the active and retired military personnel of Claiborne County by having them as Co-Grand Marshalls. Anyone wishing to participate in this needs to register before the cut-off date.

This years parade will feature all the entries we enjoy seeing... beauty queens, floats, antique cars and tractors, horse and buggies, horse and riders, and local bands performing. The special guest will be Santa Claus.

Prizes will be awarded for top three commercial and religious floats, top 10 antique cars and best of show, antique tractors, horse and buggy, and best dressed horse and rider male, female, and child.

LMU will be here again this year to tape the parade. Copies will be available for sale.

Harold Adams will again this year will be in charge of the pre-parade memorial bike ride. He can be contacted at 626-6900 or 626-8960.

The next meeting will be at 1O a.m. Nov. 2nd at the New Tazewell City Hall. Merchants are invited to attend and all help is greatly appreciated.

This year the cut-off date for all entries wilI be Nov. 12th. No entries will be taken after this date. Anyone wishing to participate can register at Enix Jewelry or by mailing in the entry form.
