The Carson-Newman men and women's basketball teams won the first of two rounds of to be fought this season with Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday night in the Tex Turner Arena.

The Lady Eagles came to Harrogate and upended the Lady Railsplitters 67-62 to drop the LMU women to 1-3 going into the Thanksgiving holiday break. After leading for the first five minutes of the game, LMU fell behind and was never able to get over the hump again.

In the men's match-up, the Railsplitters outsized Carson-Newman in the paint, however couldn't contend with the athleticism, quickness and scoring ability of the Eagles four-guard offense.

The Railsplitters fell behind early but made numerous runs only to have Carson-Newman slam the door in their face each time. Late in the game, LMU managed to cut the deficit to eight, but the Eagles quickly adjusted and went for the kill, eventually coming away with the 82-62 victory.

Now 0-3 on the year, the Railsplitters will have to wait until Dec. 10th for their next shot at defeating the Eagles and next Tuesday to try and capture their first win of the year. November 29 the LMU teams play a double-header with Benedict College that gets underway at 6 p.m. with the women's game, followed by the men's match-up at 8 p.m.
