The East Tennessee Development District (ETDD) is preparing an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant application to inventory potential brownfield sites in the 16-county ETDD region and to perform phase one assessments on selected sites. A brownfield is an abandoned or underutilized industrial site where there is a potential for contamination. The goal of the brownfield program is to reuse these sites after assessment and cleanup.

A draft of the Brownfield grant application is available for public review and comment at the county mayor's office in the following counties: Scott, Campbell, Claiborne, Union, Grainger, Morgan, Anderson, Knox, Hamblen, Jefferson, Cocke, Sevier, Blount, Loudon, Roane, and Monroe. The draft application is also posted on the ETDD website, www.discoveret.org/etdd. If you have questions or comments, please call Phil Layman at (865) 273-6003. Comments on the draft application must be received by Dec. 12, 2005.
