She was born September 2, 1920 to Frank and Mossie Kearns of Middlesboro. In 1938 she married Charles Leverett, and they were married for 60 years. After moving a lot in the first 20 years of their marriage they settled in Birmingham, Ala., were they lived for over 30 years. They loved traveling, and spent many winters in South Texas. In 1992 they moved to Pensacola. She retired from Social Security Administration in 1975. While here she volunteered at Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers Padgett, Martin, Leslie, and Frank Kearns.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Martin who moved to Pensacola and was her companion and caretaker, as much as possible with her M.S. for the last seven years, and grandsons, Brian Upchurch of Houston, Texas, and Blake Upchurch of Orlando, Fla.; her son Charlie (Doris) Leverett of Albertville, Ala., and granddaughters Lara (Rob) Deal of Atlanta, Ga. and Susan (Jamie) Dodd of Athens, Ga.; five great- grandchildren with twins on the way; sister-in-law, Joyce (Eddie) Price of Pensacola; brother-in-law, Roy J. (Steele) Leverett; many nieces and nephews; dear old friends Carmen Bluejacket, Elmer Duke, Ruby Lambert and Margaret and Bill Kendricks; and special physicians, Dr. Nashed who never gave up, and Dr. Humeda and Dr. Friedland.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 23, from 12-1,30 p.m. at Shumate Funeral Home in Middlesboro.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at England Cemetery in Tazewell, Tenn.
