A lifelong resident of Lee County, he was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation, and was a member of the Faith Baptist Church of Jonesville.
He was preceded in death by his father Lonnie (Lonzo) Welch and mother, Roxie King Welch; and an infant granddaughter, Haley Welch.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Welch, Jonesville; two sons, William C. Welch and wife Tami, Rose Hill, Va., and Terry Welch and wife Sonya, Jonesville; four grandchildren, Jordan Welch and Jade Welch, Rose Hill, Va., Faith Welch and Holden Welch, Jonesville; one brother, Lawrence W. Welch and wife Pat, Jonesville; one sister, Mabel N. Welch, Jonesville; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home, Jonesville Chapel, with the Rev. John Zion and the Rev. Richard McFarland officiating.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, in Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, Va. Those attending the graveside are requested to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery in procession. Pallbearers will be Jordan Welch, Roy Lambert, Jim Childress, Billy Hoskins, Darrell Snodgrass and Ben Munsey.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 20, at Arney- Mullins Funeral Home, Jonesville, Va., which is in charge of arrangements.
