FRANKFORT – State Rep. Rick Nelson announced today that Bell County will receive $2.7 million in new blacktop for state roads.

The first project will be the resurfacing of U.S. 25-E beginning at the Knox County line to the floodgates at Pineville. This will be a $1.8 million project and will cover 4.2 miles.

“This section of 25-E is in terrible shape and I hope Hinkle Construction will start very soon,” Nelson said.

The second project will be a $265,000 paving job from Yellow Creek School on Highway 74 to Bell County Coal, a distance of 2.21 miles.

The third project will be a 4.1 mile stretch of Highway 190, beginning at the Tennessee state line and going to Kentucky 3483. The project cost is $265,000.

Another project let late in 2010 will start soon. Highway 119 from the Harlan County line to the Blackmont Bridge covering 1.9 miles will be resurfaced and cost $289,000.

“We are requesting a lot more paving for 2011, and we have requested the resurfacing of Highway 119 from the Blackmont Bridge to the Industrial Park Bridge,” said Nelson.

Citizens can contact Rep. Nelson at rick.nelson@lrc.ky.gov, or by calling 606-248-8828.

It's good that they are finally getting something done, but one section of 25e was already paved from the knox county line to around engle's and it's a complete mess, it didn't even last a year. Seems like a waste of money if they are using the same people as before to pave the roads, obviously they had no idea what they were doing or just didn't care.
