Free home repair is available to Claiborne County families in need this summer as Appalachia Service Project (ASP), a non-profit Christian home repair ministry, arrives to work here for seven weeks. Using volunteer labor, ASP provides FREE home repair for low-income clients chosen through the ASP application process open now.

To be considered for this summer's repair program, residents must pick-up, complete, and return applications before June 16th to:

  • Appalachia Service Project Summer Center at Old Claiborne High School, 1325 Claiborne Street, Tazewell. Phone: 626-0416 (after June 6th).

  • Alpha School Family Resource Center-Teresa Barnett, contact person.

  • East Tennessee Human Resource Agency (ETHRA), 1720 Church Street, Tazewell. Phone: 626-8187.

  • If local contacts are not available, people may call ASP Headquarters in Johnson City at the following toll-free number: 1-800-289-4254, ext. 237.

Using volunteer labor, ASP will provide free home repairs for low-income clients during the seven-week Home Repair Ministries Summer Program from early June through late July this year. During this time, adults and high-school-age volunteers from churches and schools throughout the country will repair foundations, floors, porches, plumbing, wheelchair ramps, electrical systems, doors, windows, roofing, and weatherization and other projects.

Founded in 1969, Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that fosters human development by addressing the housing needs of Central Appalachia. Last summer, volunteers from 28 states and the District of Columbia made 348 homes warmer, safer, and drier throughout Central Appalachian Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

ASP anticipates more than 13,000 volunteers to help with similar projects this summer.
