MIDDLESBORO — Newly-elected council members Lucas Carter, Larry “Apple” Adkins and C.A. “Buddy” Massengill took their seats at the first Middlesboro City Council meeting of 2009, Tuesday night. All councilmembers were present for the meeting, where committees were organized.

• Community Development Committee Chairman is Rob Lincks. Other members include: Lucas Carter, Gary Mills, Ronnie Carter and Apple Adkins.

• Finance Committee Chairman is Evelyn Farmer. Committee members include: Ronnie Carter, Rob Lincks, Gary Mills and Buddy Massengill.

• Parks and Recreation Committee Chairman is Buddy Massengill. Other committee members are: Lucas Carter, Everett “Mammaw” Gulley, Rob Lincks and Apple Adkins.

• Personnel Committee Chairman is Mammaw Gulley. Other committee members are: Apple Adkins, Evelyn Farmer, Gary Mills and Lucas Carter.

• Safety Committee Chairman is Ronnie Carter. Other committee members are: Mammaw Gulley, Doug Hughes, Gary Mills and Apple Adkins.

• Sewer Committee Chairman is Doug Hughes. Other committee members are: Ronnie Carter, Evelyn Farmer and Mammaw Gulley.

• Street Committee Chairman is Gary Mills. Other committee members are: Apple Adkins, Mammaw Gulley, Doug Hughes, Rob Lincks and Buddy Massengill.

The council also approved minutes of the Dec. 16 meeting; oaths of office for incoming council members; and approved 2008 Ad Valorem tax refunds. There was no audience participation.
