PINEVILLE - A young Pineville Mountain Lion team found themselves in over their heads Thursday against Williamsburg in the 13th Region All “A” Classic semifinals and were eliminated 16-1 in five innings.

Any hopes for an upset were thwarted early on as Lion senior starter David Adams had to leave the mound in the first inning due to shoulder soreness.

Williamsburg senior Geoffrey Whitt hit 3-run homers in both the first and second innings. The Yellow Jackets also got home runs from Jacob Teague and Will Moses during a nine-run second inning as they took a 13-0 lead off three Pineville pitchers.

The Lions got on the board in the fourth inning as Shawn Madon led off with a single, Adams doubled to deep center field and Johnson singled to score Madon. Adams was thrown out at home on the play.

Justin Knuckles singled one out later and Dalton Simpson walked, but the Pineville couldn't push across another run.

Singles by Travis Napier and Johnson in the second inning were the only other Mountain Lion hits in the game.

Ryan Moses and Aaron Root had two hits apiece for Williamsburg, which subbed heavily after the second inning.

The win puts Williamsburg (7-4) in the 13th Region All “A” championship game against either Cumberland or Harlan. Field conditions prevented those teams from playing Thursday, so they will meet tonight with the final being held Saturday at Williamsburg.

Pineville (2-2) will play a make-up game against Lynn Camp at home tonight at 5 p.m.
