FRAKES — R. L. Bray, 75, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at Pineville Community Hospital.
He was the son of the late Lee and Bessie Maiden Bray of Frakes. He was of Baptist faith and a member of New Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Frakes. He had an integral part in forming the Frakes Volunteer Fire Department, and he enjoyed serving the people of the community as Fire Chief for 30 years and regretted having to retire from the position because of his health. He also worked in the maintenance department at Henderson Settlement for 27 years, and had worked as a coal miner for Hurst and Bray Coal Company.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Georgia Bray.
Survivors include his wife, Trula Bray, Frakes; his children, Judy and Carl Kishpaugh, Frakes, Harold. and Wanda Bray Balkan, Roger and Tami Bray, Frakes; grandchildren, Lisa and Willie Murray, Frakes, Amanda and Jonas Thomas, Frakes, Adam Kishpaugh, Frakes, Ashley Bray, Frakes, Matthew and Savannah Bray, Middlesboro, Scott and Rodney Smith, Pineville; great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Bray, Middlesboro; brothers, Charles and Linda Bray, Frakes, Ray Bray, Newport, Ky., Dora and Gary Partin, Walhalla, S.C.; great-nephew, Charlie Partin, Frakes; special friend, Claude Maiden; niece, Kathy Partin; nephews, Shawn Partin and Will Partin; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Creech Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Kishpaugh and the Rev. Jerry Fuson presiding.
Music will be provided by the New Vine Church Singers.
Burial will follow in the Sunnyview Lambdin Cemetery at Frakes. Pallbearers will be grandson Matthew Bray, and members of the Frakes Volunteer Fire Department Jimmy Fuson, Lee Fuson Doug Fuson, Todd Fuson and Terry Partin.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Thursday at Creech Funeral Home Chapel.
