Jack and the former Aileen Sparks were married June 21, 1948, at 5 p.m. at the Rev. Sherman Hurst’s house in Frakes. They remember the day as very hot and beautiful. Witnesses to the wedding were Clarence Hurst and Harvey Sparks.
They are the parents of Jackie Leach, Jim Powers, Joey Powers, Ron Powers and Mike Powers, all of Frakes, Eddie Powers of Jackson, Bob Powers of Piqua, and Bill Powers and Sue Merricle, both of Sidney. They have 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Aileen is the daughter of the late Harvey and Elizabeth Sparks. She is the sister of Homer Sparks of Frakes, the late Andie Banning, Josey Dixon of Middlesborro, Hester Rose of Frakes, and the late Jean Saunders.
Jack is the son of the late Jess and Arkie Powers. His siblings are Raymond Wilder, Ada Sapp, Dora Rose, Geneva Saylor and Versie Hurst, are all deceased.
Aileen worked as a cook for Cheps Pantry for many years in Sidney. She also worked for Henderson Settlement of Frakes. She retired in 1989. She enjoys growing flowers, going to flea markets and puzzle books.
Jack worked for Copeland Corp. in Sidney for 21 years. He also worked as deputy sheriff and a security guard in Frakes. He enjoys riding his 4-wheeler, fishing and listening to music.
