Powell and his classmate David Scott of the University of Louisville competed at the American Bar Association Competition in Negotiations in Los Angeles in February where they were declared National Champions.
A 2000 graduate of Middlesboro High School, Powell was awarded his Doctorate of Jurisprudence at the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville in May. Prior to his law studies, he graduated from the University of Kentucky and studied at the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce.
He is currently working with the Mackenzie and Peden Law Firm in Louisville.
Powell is the son of Bill and Becky Powell of Middlesboro.
