MIDDLESBORO — The inmate who recently escaped from the Bell County Forestry Camp didn’t make it far before city police had him back in custody.

After two days, escaped Bell County Forestry Camp inmate Joe Michael Spoonamore had only made it to Middlesboro from the minimum security facility located in Chenoa. He was arrested by a Middlesboro Police Officer during a routine traffic stop on Cumberland Avenue Saturday morning. According to Lt. Tom Busic, Spoonamore was a passenger of the vehicle that was stopped. Officer Chuck Bruce arrested the escaped inmate.

Spoonamore was serving a 12-year sentence for possession of firearm by a convicted felon and drug possession. He is currently being held in the Bell County Detention Center on $250,000 bond. He now faces a charge of escape in the second degree.
