PINEVILLE — James Julian “Sid” Mays, 70, of Pineville, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Tri-State Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harrogate, Tenn.

Born November 12, 1940, in Middlesboro, he was the son of the late Jan and Ruby Mays Weaver. He served his country in the United States Navy, and had retired from the Middlesboro Fire Department after 23 years of service.

He is survived by the following members of his family, wife, Vicki Mays; daughter, Julie (Kevin) Ellison; two grandsons, Dalton and Kevin Ellison Jr.; brothers, Ray Lee Weaver, Randall “Bo” Weaver, Terry Weaver and David Weaver; sisters, Lynda Brown, Janice Davis, Betty Renfro and Reba Bonfield; special friend, Martin Burkes; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. William Boyd Bingham presiding. Music will be provided by Luther Adkins.

Graveside services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the Green Hills Memorial Gardens with military honors being given by the American Legion Dewey Guy Post #14 of Middlesboro.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Creech Funeral Home.
