PINEVILLE — The Bell County Grand Jury has handed down an indictment for Jason Griffey, a 28-year-old Middlesboro man arrested on sodomy and sexual abuse charges in October.

Griffey has been indicted on 11 counts of sodomy in the first degree, seven counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, and nine counts of criminal attempt to commit sexual abuse in the first degree.

Griffey was employed by Terminix as a pest exterminator prior to his arrest. In that capacity, the suspect has visited homes and commercial buildings in Bell and Harlan Counties. According to Middlesboro Police Chief Jeff Sharpe, none of the alleged incidents involving Griffey are characterized as workplace-related. He also stated that the Middlesboro Police Department has not received any complaints concerning Griffey from agencies in other counties.

Griffey is set to appear for arraignment on December 16 at 9 a.m.

Griffey was originally arrested on October 14 for just the 11 counts of sodomy. He was charged with sexual abuse and criminal attempt to commit sexual abuse following investigation. All of the alleged victims in the case are boys under the age of 12.

Griffey remains in custody at the Bell County Detention Center. His bond is set at $500,000.

An arrest is an accusation only. Those arrested are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
