Anderson gets past LMU 78-72 in overtime

HARROGATE, Tenn. —- On Saturday afternoon, the top-ranked Railsplitters were handed their first blemish of the season with a 78-72 overtime loss against the Trojans of Anderson University. With the loss, Lincoln Memorial falls to 14-1 on the season and 4-1 in South Atlantic Conference play.

The Trojans were led by Taylor Shugart’s 23 points. Chandler Hash poured in 17 off the bench to aid in the victory.

The Railsplitters were led by Brandon Armstrong who scored 20 points. Jake Troyli added 11 points as the lone other double digit performer for LMU.

Lincoln Memorial shot out to a 13-4 lead in the opening minutes of the half. However, the Trojans brought the game back to a 22-22 tie with five minutes left in the half. The Railsplitters held a 27-26 lead at the break.

In the second half, the opening minutes played to a stalemate. The Railsplitters started to assert their authority as they grabbed a nine point lead with 2:26 remaining. Anderson would move back into the game and cut the deficit. With four seconds remaining in regulation, Chandler Hash drilled a three-pointer to tie the game at 66-66 and send the game to overtime.

The Trojans would control the overtime period as they outscored the Railsplitters 12-6 in that period. The Railsplitters fell by a score of 78-72.

Lincoln Memorial will look to rebound from this heartbreaking loss on January 18th as they travel to Brevard College. That game is scheduled for a 8 p.m. tip.
