TAZEWELL, Tenn. — Ruth I. (Cline) McKinney, age 84 of Tazewell, formerly of Monroe, Mich., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 24, 2012.

Ruth was born in Claiborne County on January 17, 1928, to the union of Robert H. and Lula (Bryant) Cline. She married Charles H. McKinney on February 18, 1950, at Old Yellow Creek Baptist Church in Middlesboro. Sadly Charles preceded her in death on February 3, 1986.

The couple moved to Monroe in 1950 where she made her home until 1996, when she returned to her homestead in Tazewell, Tenn.

Ruth worked for the Monroe Evening News for more than 20 years and was a member of Eastern Star and a Sunday School Secretary at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church for many years. She is a member of Pump Springs Baptist Church in Harrogate, Tenn.

Ruth was also preceded in death by her father in 1955, and her mother in 1988.

She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Philip Terry McKinney and wife Linda (Reed) of Monroe, Mich.; daughter, Deborah (McKinney) Rigsby and husband Richard A. of Tazewell; sister, Velma J. Lindensmith and husband Warren of Greenbush, Mich.; grandchildren, Scott McKinney and wife Heather of Jonesville, Mich., Tara Church and husband Nathaniel of Newport, Mich., Christina McKinney of Monroe, Mich., Nicole Branson of Cumberland Gap, Tenn., Shannon Flynn and husband Greg of Tazewell; step-grandchildren, Ricky Rigsby of Statesville, S.C., Kevin Foley of Concord, N.C.;great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Keegan McKinney, Emily Branson, Casey Lamont and Alexandra Boring of Cumberland Gap, Tenn., and Sarah Flynn of Tazewell; and step-granddaughter, Alyssa Foley of Concord, N.C.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 25, from 5-7 p.m. at Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Cannon officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 26, in the Riverview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry McKinney, Scott McKinney, Rick Rigsby, Greg Flynn, Nathaniel Church, and Larry Evans
