Springtime in Appalachia highlights MHS students’ talents in the arts

MIDDLESBORO - Thursday (April 26) will be a day of the Arts in the Middlesboro school system with the presentation of Springtime in Appalachia and a Spring Art Show.

Springtime in Appalachia shares with students and community the rich culture background of our area with performances by the MHS choir and band, storytelling by students, visual art displays, dancing and student performances on recorders. In addition to the student performers, Middlesboro schools also welcome Mary Hamilton, a professional storyteller who is well known throughout Kentucky for her Appalachian folk tales.Hamilton will be appearing at the daytime performances only.

Performance times for the schools are 9:30 and 1:30, with 7:00p.m. being the evening performance time for the public.

The MHS Art Department will present its Spring Art Show for the public in the MHS library from 4:00 to 6:30 Thursday. This is a juried event for art students. The public is invited to visit this showcase before the evening performance of Springtime in Appalachia to view the accomplishments of Middlesboro students in the visual arts.

The public is invited to these events for a taste and appreciation of Appalachia through the talents of Middlesboro students. Refreshments will be served for the evening art show and performance.
