He was born in Pineville on January 1, 1960, and was a son of Charlie Akers and the late Eliza Brock Akers. He had been a coal miner.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by brothers and sister, Lonnie Akers, Charles Akers, Jimmy Dewayne Akers and Sherry Lynn Akers.
Survivors include his wife, Shannon Hoskins Akers; daughters, Brittanie and Joey Saylor, Holly Akers and Toni Logan Akers; grandchildren, Alexis Holman and Ian Saylor; father, Charlie Akers; brothers and sisters, Joyce Schultz, Sharon Fugate, Karen Darlene Akers Kyle, Jowana Akers and Charles Douglas Akers; special nieces and nephews, Kenny Ray Helton, Felecia Brock, Lynn Bailey and Mae Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services are Friday at 1 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. James Polly presiding.
Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 until the funeral hour on Friday.
