Music, bike rides and more were all part of “Thunder in the Crater’ held this weekend in downtown Middlesboro.

Sponsored by the southeastern Kentucky chapter of the Heaven’s Saints Motorcycle Ministry, the event featured two days of gospel music concerts with performances by local and regional bands, along with guest speakers including Donnie Buell and Dano Janowski, president of the south central North Carolina chapter of the Heaven’s Saint’s Motorcycle Ministry.

Heaven’s Saints members, along with other bikers, completed a 70 mile ride to Barbourville and back to the parking lot.

Multiple vendors were also set up throughout the event at the city parking lot. The vendors had everything from biker gear to jewelry, knives and hats, as well as lots of food and drink. Many of the bands also sold their own CDs and merchandise.

The event wrapped up on Sunday with a service at Southside Baptist Church in Middlesboro. Janoskwi was the guest speaker at the service.

Heaven’s Saints began its Middlesboro chapter in August 2011. Since then the group has been trying to help a community that “is hurting.” According to Reda Harmon, the group provides ministry to prisons, children and nursing homes. They even provide baskets for the elderly at different times throughout the year. According to Harmon the group also promotes the fight against drugs.
